The
first book in Russia was printed in Moscow, and so was the first Russian
newspaper. Thanks to the great scientist Mikhail Lomonosov, the first
Russian University was founded in Moscow.
At
present 15,7 million people live in Moscow and Moscow region on a
territory of 47,000 square kilometres. There are from 2,5 to 3,0 million
visitors arriving in Moscow daily from outside the region. Moscow is also
the nation’s largest industrial centre producing automobiles, aircraft,
machine tools, first-grade metal and precision instruments.
The
restructuring priorities for Moscow are defined in the Moscow Government’s
decision for the city’s Urban Development for the period until 2010. The
most important priorities are ecology and social infrastructure, including
construction and refurbishment of Universities, Schools Kindergartens and
nurseries. There are 60300 kindergartens and 68,500 schools in Russia at
this moment.
The Russian Government has defined a new
federal programme for development & reconstruction of education.
Ministry of Economics & Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation
agreed to allocate $660 millions for its realisation (Source: Magazine
"University & School). European Commission has confirmed to fund
a 20m ECU TACIS education and training Programme in Russia.
The wealthy Russian families invest in their
children education sending them to private schools and Universities in big
cities of Russia, Europe and USA. Thousands students from Russian
Federation study abroad every year mostly in UK.
The Success of the new free market economy
mostly depends on viable and efficient education and training networks.
Therefore thousands Russian industrialists, businessmen and banks train
their specialists and managers in European and American companies.
Obviously, there is no doubt that the Russian
education market represents huge opportunities for the International and
national companies to become involved in the trade expansion of one of the
World’s greatest markets and benefit either by providing products or
services.
Demand for commercially
oriented qualifications outstripped growth
In 1997 –1998 there were 3.25 million
students in Russia studying at 880 institutions of Higher education well
above the levels of 1990-1991. With demand for commercially oriented
qualifications outstripping the modest growth in state higher education
places, private schools offering courses in Economics, Business,
Accountancy and Law have expanded rapidly. Therefore demand for education
industry equipment, instruments, products and services have risen sharply.
